This large etching was done using line through a hard ground, and then open bite on steel to get the tonal areas. The sky was done by sticking the top of the plate partly into a bath of 1:3 nitric, and brushing the acid straight on to the open steel. (Needless to say I did it outside in the garden!). The image was drawn direct on to the plate from a large sketch.
