Watercolour

Watercolour

The beauty of this medium is its directness.  I prefer to paint without drawing, and apply the paint in as few washes as possible to maintain the purity of the colours.

I paint wet in wet to start with, but often add detail and texture on top, with a much dryer brush.  I use Arches 140 gsm cold pressed for smaller paintings, but tend to use 140 rough for larger works because I feel it increases the vibrancy of the finished painting.

Watercolour is great for flowers, which I pick from the garden throughout the changing seasons.
